Moving from 32 bit to 64 bit

Are there in special requirements when moving from the 32 bit version of LibreOffice to the 64 bit version?

Or can I just run the 64 bit installer and it will uninstall the 32 bit version and use my existing settings?

The download page Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft has been pushing me to use the 64 bit version for a while now, so now that v6.0 is available, it looks like a reasonable time to move.

Thanks!

Yes.

Anyway, backing up your user settings won’t hurt. I advise to do it before any upgrade.

I’m currently wondering the same thing. However, the 64-bit installer does not appear to be detecting a previous 32-bit install and it is naturally defaulting to a different install location: “Program Files/LibreOffice” instead of “Program Files (x86)/LibreOffice 4” - which is were the current 32-bit version is installed.

Yes, that is the correct behavior; but how does that imply that

the 64-bit installer does not appear to be detecting a previous 32-bit install

The installer should (1) detect the old version (32- or 64-bit); (2) take the list of installed components; (3) uninstall old ver; (4) install to new location.

@mikekaganski I would have expected some kind of acknowledgement that an existing installation was found “here…” and an option to overwrite (or remove) the existing installation - I would not expect that to be automatic. What if I had some reason to keep the old version? Or is that not possible with the standard installer?

That is not possible, and was never possible. The installer updates existing version if found.

If you need several versions in parallel, you may use portable versions (currently 32-bit only), or administrative installs.

I’m trying (& failing) to migrate a 32-bit LibreOffice Profile on computer A running Windows 7 to a 64-bit LibreOffice Profile on computer B running Windows 10. Not working. Any help? I have hundreds of autocorrects that each produce lines of computer code plus around 100 macros that complement the autocorrects. So I’m heavily invested in getting these across if anyone knows how to bridge that gap. I’ve tried various ways to transfer the profile files but the 64-bit version on computer B isn’t aware of the files copied from the 32-bit computer A.

tried various ways

Apparently those were very secret ways, otherwise why don’t you tell what exactly you tried?

Thanks Mike!
