How do I apply columns to a paragraph in Writer (LO6)?

How do I apply columns to a paragraph in Writer (LO6)? The columns functionality, which was ‘universally applicable’ seems to have moved entirely to page formatting, or am I missing something?

thank you for asking this. It was driving me crazy, too. I asked on Twitter. They told me to come here.

To “apply columns universally”, you need now to:

  • select a range of paragraphs,
  • and then explicitly insert a section (from menubar: Insert-Section...) and
  • setup columns there (one of the “tab” options in the Section insert pop-up dialog).

The previous menu item was a shortcut for that.

Thank you. I must say, I miss the “shortcut.”

I do also.

Explanation is not for “Libra for Dummies” I don’t understand HOW to select the range or where to go to find the option.

In your document choose the section you desire to turn into columns; mouse-click at the beginning and hold down your mouse to the end of your selection. Then in the menu bar choose Insert, in that menu choose Section. A pop-up box with 5 tabs, the 2nd tab is Columns.
