Limit what is offered on the Styles dropdown Toolbox?

Is there a way to customize the choices offered by the Styles and Formatting dropbox on the Formatting toolbar?

I only use about four styles so it would be nice if those were the only four on the dropdown list so I don’t have to keeping looking for them through an endless list of styles.

Thanks

At the bottom of the ‘Styles and Formatting’ windowlet there is a dropdown offering amongst others the option ‘Applied Styles’. It should work as its name tells.

If you are using your own styles, as is mostly recommendable, I would suggest to switch to ‘Hierarchical’ there.

The box at the bottom of the ‘Styles and Formatting’ window is already set to Hierarchical, But that’s not the box I’m talking about. I’m talking about the drop-down list on the Formatting Toolbar. Is there any way to edit what’s on that list?

I’ve also tried “hiding” styles in the ‘Styles and Formatting’ window, but they still appear on the Formatting toolbar drop-down list.

Thanks

Sorry. I missed that (probably because I never use that dropdown).
Don’t know a way. Don’t think there is one.

I don’t know of a way to do that. But there are workarounds. You can use the Styles and Formatting sidebar, set to Applied Styles, or in my case, Custom Styles is more useful. Or you can hotkey the styles you most often use. I do this with Ctrl-numpad on my 105-key keyboard. If you really don’t use the dropdown styles box you can hide it in the toolbar, and/or add custom buttons for the styles you most use. But I find the dropdown box useful for a quick check of the current style.

Thanks Paul,

Setting the Formatting sidebar to Applied Styles helps. In fact, that revealed that I was using a style I wasn’t aware of. I was able to find that style in the document and delete it. I actually do use the hotkeys to insert the styles I use.

So I’ll just use the Sidebar set to “Applied Styles” to see what I’m actually using. That works good!

Thanks.
