Please bring LibreOffice quicklauncher back! (V6.0.1.1 - Linux)

I got used to this nifty quicklauncher icon down im my taskbar and it was very very speedy to just rightclick on this icon to then be able to launch any kind of libreoffice application.

Now in version 6 I cannot find it anymore. (I am here on Linux - could be that it is still there in Windows)

Please bring it back in Linux.

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

Don’t have 6.01 installed but have dev version. Memory page where it used to reside is no longer there but have a look under Libreoffice->General. I have it on bottom of right panel.

There is a strange entry in 6.0 release notes, telling that “The Linux Quickstarter is removed.” - which is stroke-out, so unclear if it’s true or not. Also, I couldn’t find a reference to the commit or bug report for that, so no idea if that’s the real thing.

It’s such a PITY! I’m back to OpenOffice because of that.

Just double checked it:
Under “General” I cannot find it. Last entry on bottom is “Help improve Libre Office”. (Sorry, got different language pack installed so I do not know how it will look like in the english version.

Here a screeny:

and thats how it looked like before:

Greetings!

This is not an answer; so please either edit your original question, or post this as comments. Answers should answer the question.

Also please don’t use “community wiki” thing.

Sorry, was not done deliberately. Wanted to remove this wiki tick too but did not know how.

On my Linux-Mint 6.0.1 LibO (En-GB) system Quickstarter is there on TOOLS > OPTIONS > LIBREOFFICE > GENERAL > Enable Systray Quickstarter.

Sorry. Restarted LibO with 5.4 version and it has now disappeared. Restarted 6.0.1 and it is back again! A puzzle.

Restarted my PC now. Restarted LO. Ticked “experimental Features” - unticked it. Started again. No Quickstarter. :frowning: (Linux Mint 18 / LO 6.0.1.1 (5.4) - de-DE)

I don’t have Memory or Quickstarter either under General on LibreOffice Version: 6.0.7.3 either

This only works in Libreoffice 6.0.
In Debian based systems you can install libreoffice-systray which brings back the quickstarter option in TOOLS > OPTIONS > LIBREOFFICE > GENERAL.

In LibreOffice 6.1 and higher, the option was completely removed.

Check this answer.

@RGB-es That answer does not answer the question. It only says how to create shortcuts (which would already be created if you install LibreOffice). But with quick start enabled, the starting time was a fraction of second. Otherwise, it takes 5-6 seconds to open LibreOffice 6.1 even with 4gb ram and quad core in processor. Can you suggest where we can ask to add the feature back?

“But with quick start enabled, the starting time was a fraction of second”

It wasn’t. What happened is that the program was loaded in the background during system start-up, and that means your system needed more time to start. So no, quickstarter did not start LibO faster, it made your system start slower. But if you’re happy with that situation, it can be replicated too: at least on Plasma desktop it’s quite easy to define a rule to start any app at log-in, just use the --minimized or --invisible parameters (note: I’ve never used those parameters, so better read the documentation before trying them, specially the second one).

@RGB-es I know that it ran in the background, and took some extra time during startup (that can be delayed, though), but I don’t want it to take 5 seconds every time I open a file. I tested both invisible and minimized arguments. The minimized argument opens a whole libre office window (which can be used to quickly open files only once, as it closes after the file is closed). And, the invisible argument prevents libre office windows from opening at all. So, none of them were useful in this case.

Please note that the background running feature was really useful. Is there any place where we can ask the developers to reconsider enabling it again? It need not be included by default. We can install packages like libreoffice-sysytray to enable it. A google search shows that lots of users want it back.

You can report bugs / request enhancements in bugzilla.

QuickStart was removed from LibreOffice for Linux. Too bad. I’m back to OpenOffice because of that. QuickStart still works fine on OpenOffice.
