Text boxes in Draw

I am an experienced user of MS Publisher, now trying to get on with Draw. If I import a publisher file all content is fine except, the text or image boxes all sit on top of each other. i,e if I add an image, I cannot see how to make the text in the box below flow around the image. It just sits underneath hidden. Moving box to front does not do the job. simple I am sure.

Don’t seem to be able to upload .pub file, but that might just be a Firefox setting

Tried to upload .pub file but apparently file extension is not allowed!!

Karma not helping. It just seems that if Draw cannot do these very basic magazine layout things then no replacement for Publisher as led to believe. I am sure there is other software that will. But Draw seems very happy to load .pub files and many others do not. Does Draw allow text to autoflow between text boxes? Surely it must.

I’m afraid it’s not possible. I don’t think you can make text in textbox wrap around image which is another object. Hopefully, someone more skillful will comment on this, but can you attach a image showing the problem (post a link or something)?

@FrankieR: Edit your question and use the tool looking like a paperclip from the toolbar. Your “karma” should allow uploads for you.
(I cannot promise to be able to help you, of course. There is some curiosity on my behalf, however. But someone else trying to help you will also be better off with an example file.)

The one old trick to upload files with “disalowed” extensios is, to append a fake extension (.odg in this case e.g.)

I’m not interested in desktop publishing at all, and only marginally in producing something like a flyer, but I used Draw a lot years ago to create illustrations for prints I used in my teaching, and I was often pleased by its features. I would never think about using it for the creation of a magazine (even a simple one), however. Did you ever see a satisfying example of the kind made or edited with Draw?

No never seen anything. It was just something I read when I asked Google for DTP software that could import .pub files. I use LibreOffice all the time, so I was just experimenting. All the answers i have got have been very helpful, so thank you all.

Draw is more a simple vector drawing tool that can do multipage than a DPT tool. For “desktop publishing” you’ll get better results by using Scribus: AFAIK, version 1.5 offers some publisher import capabilities.

Thanks for your answer, very helpful. I don’t have to import pages from Publisher, but when I produce an annual booklet just updating an article rather than rekeying the whole thing is obviously much less time consuming. I currently run MS Publisher on my mac and as the Mac gets older it gets slower and I am running Publisher 07 using XP, so nothing ideal. I will have a look at Scribus
