Just ran into this. I have several spreadsheets with date formatted cells. The format is specified as Date, December 31, 1999. As I enter data, normally, I can just enter a short date and hit enter and the properly formatted date will appear. For example, I can simply enter 7/25 and hit Enter and the cell will show July 25, 2018.

I just discovered, however, if I enter certain common fractions, it will display the fraction instead of the date. I found this when trying to enter March 4th. When I got to the date cell, I entered 3/4, expecting March 4, 2018 to be displayed. Instead, the cell showed 3/4. Playing with it, I find the same action using 1/4 and 1/2.

Not really a huge thing, as I can enter 03/04 and get March 4 as desired. I just found it interesting that even though the cell was set to a specific format, it doesn't always work that way.

You probably got hit by AutoCorrection that changes input of 3/4 to the character glyph ¾

Either disable Tools -> AutoCorrect, tab Options, Use replacement table; or delete the 1/2 and 1/4 and 3/4 from the replacement table in the Replace tab page.
