Table Cell Padding in Writer

How can I set cell padding or define the space between cells of a table in Writer? Can’t seem to find that function.

I would like to get a table like that one below (done in MS Word).

table

In MS Word there is an option that allows to set spacing between cells: Right click on the table, then Table Properties -> Options -> Allow spacing between cells.

Please do not post additional “question” information as an “answer”: it belongs in the question itself. Thanks. (And please see my updated answer: hope it helps. It might not!)

With your cursor in your table, right-click and choose “Table Properties…”, or from the Menu choose Table > Properties. In the dialog that opens click on the Borders tab (not the most obvious, I suppose, since padding is not a “border”, but still…):

If you want to set individual padding settings for cells, just “select” them, and follow the same procedure. It will apply only to the selected cells rather than the whole table.

UPDATE for new information added by OP – I can think of two ways of achieving something like the table layout desired:

  1. Set border-width to 6pt, and use “double-line” as border style; or
  2. Set cell-padding to 1 pt (= default), and style dotted borders for paragraphs.

Here are the results of those two approaches:

For convenience, you can grab my test document if that’s a help:

Thank you for your reply. Is that the distance between content and the cell border? How do I set the space between cells in that case? Probably, what I meant was then cell spacing?

@dr.nukular - Tables in word-processing are not like tables in (e.g.) HTML: the cells are always next to each other. Why do you want space between cells? If you must do, then simply add extra “dummy” rows/columns, leave them empty, and set their height/width to your desired spacing.

@dajare I’m aware that tables in word-processing are different from HTML tables. I was looking for a setting that would enable me to add space between cells, rather than having “dummy” columns. It just adds a mess when formatting those cells. I have attached above a picture illustrating what I would like to achieve.
