LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Why do I get this message and how can I fix it?

I get this error message every time I try to create/use LibreOffice base " LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart LibreOffice." Why do I get this message and how can I fix it?

I can’t create a database because of this error message. I don’t know how to fix it. Could someone help me fix this problem?

Thanks,
Michelle

Please do not post as Wiki. It helps no one.

I also got this error. You should install the Java JRE and JDK before installing the LibreOffice. You can follow this tutorial to install complete Java stack on Linux.

Hello @Skyler63,

You have not provided any information about your LO version or OS. The bitness of LO & the OS you are using are critical to answering this question.

With that information, you should be able to resolve your problem by following my answer in this post - on firefox and have loaded java 32.

Also, this question has been asked and answered numerous times already. When coming to this forum (or any other) please search the questions for existing answers.

I have Windows 10 64 bit LO So I need 64bit Java right! I don’t think I can download Java using Google browser because I did that a few years ago and it did not work. So I will try Microsoft Edge to see if that helps. Thanks for the help!

Thank you, It’s working now!

@Skyler63 Glad it is working. However you assumption based upon Windows being 64 bit is not correct. Win 64 can run either LO 32 or 64 bit. Therefore, JRE 32 or 64 bit is based upon which LO is installed.

I tried fixing this problem myself for a year or so using both versions of LO and Java 32 bit and 64 and neither worked. The only thing I did differently this time I used Microsoft Edge. For some reason, Google does not like Java to say simply they don’t play nice.

JRE = Java Runtime Environment.
Certain tasks in Base require Java.
Go to the Java downloads site and get the appropriate version for your system (x64 or x86).

Install and restart LibreOffice.

If this solves your issue, please check the checkmark at left.

@LibreTraining It needs to be clear that 32 or 64 bit depends upon LO installed & not OS. Also if OS is MAC, JRE will not work. JDK is necessary.

I have covered this in detail for Windows and Linux on how to fix the JRE error.

I have a Windows computer running on Windows 10.

I just installed the Windows Offline (64-bit) filesize: 79.19 MB Worked right after installing it. Didnt even need to retstart my computer.
