Changing Ruler to Standard 1/8 Increments of Inches

Is it possible to make the ruler use parts of 8 when using inches? It is standard with MsWord etc and is useful when making half-indents, for example. This is impossible with the default-for-Libreoffice parts-of-10 ruler.

I understand it may take a bit of code to get the unit handling right, but this is such an important, almost default feature for any word processor. Is it possible to implement a timesaving, convenient industry standard tweak?

As workaround, you can set up a grid with the size of 0.125".
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice Writer/Grid.

To set up the grid color.
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Appearance - Custom color - Text documento - Grid.

@mariosv – I was thinking about using a grid to solve this problem, but I didn’t know if the text and tab-stops would align to it. The Online Help on Grids mentions Draw and Impress, but I don’t see a mention of Writer.

Thoughts?

Hi @jimbo1qaz,

If you don’t get an answer on this site in the next week or so, I suggest that you file an enhancement bug and provide as much information about this feature as possible. I looked in the bugtracker for similar requests, but nothing stood out.

Don’t forget to mark your bug as an ‘enhancement’. The QA team will be happy to help you triage your feature request.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!

@jimbo1qaz - Settings are under Tools / Options but you must open each application seperately to get acces to the settings. e. g. Open Writer then tools / options / writer / general in the middle of the right part you can change measuring units. However, the unit inch is broken down in 1/10 and not 1/8.

Thus I suggest you follow @quibit’s advice and file an enhancement request.
