(SOLVED) Convert text (2. October 1928) to data

I got two columns:
1st column contains a start-date and second column contains an end-date of a period.
in the third column I would like to calculate the period in months.

The dates in the first and second columns are plain text such as 1st column: “2**.** October 1928” and second column: “7**.** June 1930” (Note the sentence).

As for me you not need convert this plain text to any other formats - function =DATEDIF(A1;B1;"m") must work properly with this values. With your examples of dates I has get 20 month - is it correct?

Thanks but I onlu got “#VALUE!”

With Menu/Data/Text to column they can be converted on true dates for the spreadsheet, clicking on the column head an selecting the column type as DMY.

Thanks but for me - in my calc, the “column type” is greyed out/ not available

Perhaps you have selected more than one column or have not selected anything.Try again - select single column and go to menu Data

I found out that I also have to select the column in the dialog box (even though I already did that in the first place in the spreadsheet) - so now it works, thanks
