i am new to linux and ubuntu
After i launch the mail merge wizard, in the tools menu of LibreOffice , and after completing steps #1 and #2, i cannot go past “Select Address list”
I am able to create and select an address List. However i cannot proceed further beyond that point.
when I click OK at the bottom of the “Select Address List” dialog box nothing happens
I am using Ubuntu 18.04
Please have a look, which version of LibreOffice you have got and what Java jre. There seems to be a problem with LO 6.0.3 and “openjdk-11-jre” on Ubuntu 18.04.

It appears your best approach for this is the LO documentation found here → Documentation/Publications. Chapter 14 of the Writer guide is about Mail Merge.

Is this what you are currently stuck on? Seethe highlighted line? Is yours highlighted like this with a table name?

Checked the LO document followed the tools menu mail merge steps correctly but still does not work
You have created an address list and you are on the ‘Select Address’ dialog. The address list you created now has a name & table name which should now be highlighted. Is the OK button dimmed? If so you have not properly created the source for the list.
As an added test, just moved over to Ubuntu 18.04 with LO v6.04 from TDF installed. Have no problems with the Mail Merge process.
I Checked and my ubuntu 18.04 had LO 1…??? Installed. i removed LO completely and installed
LO V6.0.4.2 . from the software center. the problem remains
Is LO V6.0.4.2 installed from the software different from that loaded from TDF

tried using command given at LO TDF and got the following error

Error: need a single repository as argument
Sorry but you are not responding to questions & your comments aren’t very clear. You never responded to my first comment above. Need to know exact steps you are taking and what is being seen.
Your last comment makes no sense at all. What command? Where is LO TDF?
I started all over again. i used SWC to remove LO V6. i added LO V6 PPA repositories to my SW sources. I got LO V6 PPA ATP from libreoffice launchpad site. I used terminal line commands to install LO V6. LO V6 installed with no problem. problem still exist. I am running ubuntu 18.04 alongside windows 10. I Got PPA APT from: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
I Followed instructions from: How to Install LibreOffice 6.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Above - OMG! Ubuntu!
And now, for the THIRD time, and since I can’t see what you are looking at:

You stated this is as far as you get. Can’t see what you are looking at (I know the dialog - just not what is actually displayed in front of you). See edit in my answer!
i am able to create any address list. when i do so i am able to click OK, give the list a name and save. I cannot go on to step #4 (Create a salutation) and step #5 (Adjust Layout) as all the buttons associated with these steps are dimmed. I will try later today to capture some screen shots save on onedrive and send you a link so you can view them. if you would like to see any in particular let me know
