I’ve created a template that I use daily for my work. Sometimes I forget that I need to press save as and just absentmindedly press ctrl+s, thus overwriting my template. Is there a way to disable this?
This seems to indicate your “template” as just another ordinary file. To male it a template in LO concept, it should be saved with .ott extension instead of .odt. You have two possibilities for that:
-
File
>Save As
and select file format from the drop-down menuThe template can be stored anywhere, usually in a folder of your home directory. You double-click on it and LO Writer changes the name to Untitled-1.odt so that
Ctrl
+S
does not overwrite the template. -
File
>Save As Template
The template will be saved in the “system” template directory, so that
File
>New
>Templates
allows you to select which one you want to instantiate. Name will also be changed to Untitled-1.odt.
