Supposedly you can alter columns via menu: Format > Columns.
I can’t see ‘Columns’ on my version 6.0.4.2. How do I change my menu list?
It depends on the type of the columns. You can have columns in page style, in section, in frame and in table. You need to give more details.
It appears that LO6 doesn’t have ‘Columns’ listed in Format menu. It also doesn’t show Manage Styles. I assume both are bugs, because LO5 works for both so I’ve gone back to it.

This is not a bug but a deliberate change (in the approach of lightening the interface: columning is an option of section insertion). (I disapproved of this deletion for myself…)
That said, this change has been revised and the menu entry will be reintroduced in version 6.1. See details: tdf#115344
