Is it possible to insert a tilde (~) in an equation?

I’d like to use a tilde in an equation, along the lines of:

σ ~ Uniform(0, 10)

Is it possible to do this with the equation editor of Libre Office 4? The Math Guide indicates that the default behaviour of the tilde appears to be to create a “large gap”.

@mahfiaz: I’m unable to comment on your answer (karma too low?), but thank you… so simple!

You are welcome

Enclose your tilde with quotes, “~”
