How to create a shortcut for converting tables to text?

This is about LibreOffice Writer.

I often need or certainly want to convert copied and pasted tables to plain text and am not finding any way to be able to create a short-cut key combination for this. I tried with the Tools | Options and Tools | Personalization menus (using a French version of LibreOffice), and Personalization permits creating some or defining some shortcut key combinations, but there apparently isn’t a way to create a shortcut for converting tables to text.

Since CTRL+T evidently isn’t defined and I think of it as T meaning text, so “please give me text format”, this is the key combination I’d use. CTRL+C, C for convert, could do, but it could be for converting to formats other than plain text. So, T is what I’d want. I never have to create many tables, so using the Table or Tables menu is sufficient, but I often need or rather want to convert many tables to plain text in order to require fewer pages. Needing to place the mouse pointer in every table to be converted and then go through the Table menu route to do the many conversions is a serious nuisance, very frustrating. A shortcut key combination would greatly speed up the process of doing the conversions.

There should be a way to create or define wholly new shortcuts for functionality not presently included in the Personalization dialogue or whatever it’s called.

Maybe, you are looking for:

Tools → Customize → Keyboard

Category: Options

Function: Table to Text

Select a shortcut key

Press “Modify” → “OK”

Thanks for the reply, manj_k.

I just learned of your reply, evidently or apparently not having received an e-mail notification for it. This current visit was to check if there was a reply for a new thread I began yesterday.

I’ve found how to do the selections shown in the image you provided, though short-cut key that consists of 4 keys seems like a little too much hassle for me. Ctrl+Alt+T, Alt+Shift+T, Alt+T, and Ctrl+T are all free with the default installation of LibreOffice or LO Writer, so I’ll opt for one of these due to not being accustomed to using short-cut keys other than Ctrl+N for new file or tab, and Ctrl+Shift+B for opening the bookmarks manager in Firefox, f.e.

Short-cut keys would be good to know, but I’ll need a print-out for the ones available in Libreoffice.

How does selecting table (plus at least one line before and after), Ctrl+X to cut, Ctrl+Shift+V and selecting “Plain text” work for you?

I just created a dummy 2-column and 2-row table, including with dummy text strings in each of the cells. These strings were specified as follows, for each row and cell, in the table: DDD, EEE, FFF and GGG, left to right. After performing the operation that you asked for me to test, the result is the following: DDD, EEE, FFF and GGG, in a single column, in this order. So the ordering is the same, as long as a person wants the conversion done from left to right, row by row, one row at a time. If a person preferred column by column, then the dialogue box that pops up when pressing Ctrl+Shift+V doesn’t have an option for this. The option is called “Unformatted text” in the dialogue box that appears, but has the same meaning as “plain text”.

Sorry for the very late reply, but I didn’t know you had replied to my post until this evening.
