LO changed to Word

I opened my documents file this morning to find that every single document in every single file had magically morphed into Word.

How can I safely change all documents back to LO and keep it from happening again?

TIA

 Do you think that LibreOffice has any influence on how MS Office changes system file associations (when it is updated, or otherwise)? Using two applications handling the same file types on the same system, when one of them silently re-associates itself with the file types, is not a situation with a well-defined solution other than to use only one such application on system, or get used to such peculiarities.

First, I do wonder how Microsoft managed to change my doc’s into Word. And yes, I would think it was a feature that was included in one of their updates. Infuriating that they’re trying to bamboozle me into buying Word and I refuse to do it.

Also, yes, I suspect what I’ll do, at least for now, is do any writing with the document in OpenFreely and let it go ahead an save as Word.

Unless, of course, someone comes up with a better idea.

Use a different operating system? Assuming you’re on Windows, of course. If you don’t need any MS-only software, there are some excellent options waiting…

The question mark should be replaced with an exclamation mark or a full stop.

Yes, it is an MS update issue. Right-click on the file in “Windows Explorer”. Select “Open With.” Then select “another app”. Search “LibreOffice”. Checkmark for “Always use this app to open odt files”.
