Just downloaded LibreOffice, but don’t know how to open it. Is there supposed to be an icon?

The application is installed in one of the ways your OperatingSystem provides.
In case of Windows, e.g. your downloaded installer will have the extension .msi (from MicroSoftInstaller). A doubleclick on the file should start the process.
