How can I convert Word document to Libre Office Writer?

My Libre Office Writer docs have been converted to word

What makes you think that your documents have been “converted to word”? What are the symptoms? What can you now not do that you could do before?

LibreOfice can open most, if not all, Word documents. Go to your list of documents and right-click on the file name of one of them. A dialog box will open and among the choices will be “Open with …”. Click on that and choose LibreOffice. Be sure to save the document as an open document format (.odt, for example).

@DennisS1 Please be more specific. You converted the files or someone else? What is your Operating System (Windows, Linux, MAC)? In Windows, sadly, the extension is “responsible” for what type a document is (and might be “false alarm”…).

Assuming that you are on a Windows pc: somehow Windows “thinks” that your files should be opened with MS Office instead of LO. There are various ways to link them to LO again, dependent on your version of Windows, which you didn’t provide. One method that probably works on all versions is: right click on a file in Windows Explorer and select Open with, select Browse or Other program (on my tablet now, don’t know the name by heart), browse to the LO program files folder (in the shortcut info window), tick Always open with this program and OK. That should fix it.
