Impress file size reduced when saving on mac os X

I made a presentation with libreoffice impress 3.6 on ubuntu which contains pictures and videos. The pictures are embedded and the videos are linked. The file grew rather large (28,8M). I transferred the folder containing all files (presentation, pictures and video) on Mac os X and made a minor edition to the presentation (just added a character) and saved the file. After saving again the presentation under mac os X, I found out that the file became about 3 times smaller (8.8M).

I haven’t noticed any difference at all between the presentation before and after saving it under os X, thus before and after the shrinking in size. I’m worried about a potential loss of something that I haven’t noticed but might be a problem later. But I suppose it could also be a matter of different version (3.4 under ubuntu, 3.6 under os X), or may be some sort of cache in the file that was deleted under os X. Is there a reassuring explanation?

edit: When I switch back to ubuntu and re-edit the file and save, the file grows back to 28.8M. So I suppose it’s more a matter of libreoffice version rather than information loss. I’d be interested if anyone could confirm this.

I think it’s just a way how the OS manage the files
For an example the version of LO on Mac OSX is the lightest and on Window is the heaviest.
Another example : on OSX a 10MB pictures.jpg will take 14MB on Window
