Find wildcards

Find using wildcards reports “search not found” on two recent versions of Calc 6.X on my desktop.

Sent the exact same file via ftp to my laptop and the same search worked using Calc 5.X.

Double checked find options. Both systems use the Ubuntu 16.04 OS.

What am I missing here?

It would help enormously to know what your search string was!

LibreOffice can use wildcards, or regular expressions, or none - depending on the settings in the Find & Replace dialog. These settings are hidden under the Other Options expanding group. So you need to make sure that you select the correct setting.

As you don’t tell which search string are you using, and which text in a cell you are expecting to find, it’s hard to tell if there is anything else to take into account. Note that for formulas, there’s a setting under OptionsLibreOffice CalcCalculate, which tells if regular expressions or wildcards should be used in searches.

The resolution was embarrassingly simple. I did not realize and overlooked that there was both a Wildcards box and a Regular Expressions box in later versions of Calc.
