Footnote characters with relative rather than absolute font size

I would like my footnote anchors in headings to take their font and size and color from the heading paragraph style. Currently they’re all the same font, size and color as my Default Style, which makes them look tiny and misplaced in the context of a heading.

Can I change the “Footnote Anchor” character style to just specify “superscript” and leave all other attributes unchanged?

Footnote Anchor currently looks like this:

You probably modified unwittingly (no offence intended) your Footnote Anchor character style, because it behaves as you’d like in my LO copy.

From your screenshot, you forced font to Lato, 11pt, light.

First, restore standard automatic behaviour:

  • Go to Font tab
  • Press button Standard, then OK

Check that auto-sizing has been restored.

Button Standard removes all user-defined attributes and resets the ones shown in the tab to their default state.

Next, proceed with you customisation (Font tab):

  • Select the desired font family (Lato)
  • Eventually select the font style (light)
  • Do not click on any size, otherwise you’ll lose the automatic sizing
