Content Repartition on Columns

Hello there. (Sorry about the language I’m French)

On Libreoffice Writer, I defined two columns for a part of text of my page.
The problem is that its content is equally split in two, because the parameter is checked.
If I uncheck it, the text is now only on one column.
But, if I close and re-open Libreoffice, the parameter is checked, and the text is split in the two columns again.

Someone now what I’m doing Wrong ?

I take it the parameter you unchecked was the “Evenly distribute contents to all columns” box in “options” for your two column section. Did you remember to resave the document after taking it out? Sorry if this is a silly suggestion, but we all make mistakes.

An afterthought

This problem worries me. I have recently begun to send documents to colleagues in .odt form only, telling objectors that Microsoft now says even Word 2007 should open .odt files. (https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/use-word-to-open-or-save-a-document-in-the-opendocument-text-odt-format-20e5189f-86f8-4d8f-ae74-ea06b7df3b0e) It is depressing to think there might be a real problem with files I send.

So I tried a few experiments. They do not solve your problem. They suggest that a file created in Writer (6.0.6) and saved as .odt with the “evenly distribute contents” box unchecked will reopen correctly in Writer. But if saved as docx (using both of the forms Writer offers) will open in Writer with evenly distributed contents.

Opened in Word 2010 Starter (the only form I have and which I am pretty sure is still used by some people I send files to) all three files opened with evenly distributed text (except that, oddly, the Word 2007-2013 XML file opened once with the text in the left column before returning to evenly distributed)

A final effort with the two column section changed to a single column (i.e. the same as the rest of the document) opened correctly in Word 2010 and Writer whether in .odt or .docx format. This inspired me to experiment with rotated text boxes, which I occasionally use. I think there might be a problem with converting them too.

If you dont’t find a better answer you might report this as a bug.

Sorry I cannot solve your problem. I sometimes use a table to provide a pair of parallel columns (I don’t recall ever using columns with “evenly distribute contents” unchecked). But whether a table would do for you depends on the result you want to achieve.

Hello. Yes yes I’m saving it ^^ Maybe it’s important to note that I save my file as .docx (I need to do it for my project)
