How to install the Calibri Font into Linux Ubuntu Mate

Hello,
I was asked by university to use the MS Font Calibri, but I have one of my PCs with still Linux Ubuntu Mate 16.04.
I am beginner with Linux Ubuntu Mate. Could somebody let me know step by step how to introduce the MS Font Calibri into Linux Ubuntu Mate 16.04? Many thanks in advance.

Ask in a relevant forum. Do not make your question a wiki one.

Calibri is no free ttf font, so advice is not easy to give…

  • Replace the Calibri font by a similar one

You can install fonts-crosextra-carlito from the repos. Using Synaptic it is easy to find and the description is as follows:

Carlito is metric-compatible with Calibri font. Carlito comes in regular, bold,
italic, and bold italic. The family covers Latin-Greek-Cyrillic (not a
complete set, though) with about 2,000 glyphs. It has the same character
coverage as Calibri. This font is sans-serif typeface family based on Lato.

  • Calibri as part of PowerPoint Viewer

Calibri is also part of the PowerPointViewer which is not more offered by Microsoft. But you can still find it on some places on the internet. Installing PowerPointViewer in WINE you will find Calibri fonts in “C:\windows\fonts” or similar in your .wine directory. The .wine directory is a hidden one in your home directory. Be aware to not break any copyright.

I am beginner with Linux Ubuntu Mate

If so it is better to ask in some Linux forums for “step by step” help if you are not able to use one of my hints.

Cheers
