JRE problems with Mac

When I tried to access one of my LibreOffice databases today I got the message that the JRE could not be found or is corrupted. The JRE was there but I reinstalled my JRE (Java 8 update 191, Build 1.8.0_191-b62) and restarted my computer which didn’t help. I’m running MacOS 10.13.6. I have been using my database with no problems so this kind of came out of the blue. Any solutions?

Hello,

Mac needs JDK installed. Please see this post → on firefox and have loaded java 32

Does the JDK file replace or augment a JRE file? The JRE8 191 is present on my Mac but LO can’t seem to find it. In LO preferences/advanced the JRE files box is not populated. When I think about it, I believe my problem started after an OS update. FYI my LO version is 6.0.6.2.

JRE is actually part of JDK. As to why you need JDK, please see my answer here → Still can’t find Java installation and the link within it.

I downloaded JDK today. I did have to go to LO preferences/advanced where the JRE window was now populated and then chose the JRE. Then I could open my Base database with no problems. Did not require a restart. Thanks.
