Calc: new cells don't inherit column's formatting

I have set formatting on a column, say, ColumnSubtotal, by selecting the column header and doing right-click Format, then choosing a format.

If I later add/insert a new row, the new cell in column ColumnSubTotal does not inherit the formatting that I set earlier for that column.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but is there a way of setting formatting that is inherited by new cells (in that column)?

Maybe checking: Menu/Tools/Options/LIbreOffice calc/General - Input settings - Expand formatting.
