LO .odt won't open Panic!

I have been working with LO Writer for months and today I was trying to open my file from the “recent” and it DIDN’T EXIST! I located it finally, but it won’t open. It looked like it was .xml file for some reason and it started to launch InDesign!!!? I changed the file type to .odt but it won’t still open. It shows me that there’s 14,6Mt worth of work. How will I get back my latest work?

I’m desperate…

General Error.
General input/output error.
Version: 5.4.7.2

First do a copy of the file. After that recover the extension on the copy and try to open it selecting xml as file type?

Have you got any backups ?
My Libre Office makes its own backups by default they are stored in a hidden folder, but mine are customised to specific easily found folders.
You need to say what the Operating System is an the version and also what version of Libre Office is in use. Whatever you do for now as mentioned by @mariosv always copy any file you are attempting to recover before opening the copy.

Thank you for your kind replies! I tried to do all these different extensions. Only way I got anything visual was to make it .doc and opening it with TeXturi (mac). Text was overlined and not recoverable from that formatting. But I got a Friend who was able to open the file somehow and got me the raw text out so I was able to take that part I was missing and continue! I will not touch Writer again

Good advice was that copying the file. I didn’t do that in the first place… Next time I know better!

Cheers,
Savanna

Quoting @Savanna; “I will not touch Writer again…”
A good idea! This under the condition that you also not touch again Windows, MS Office, Mac OSX, or any other recent complex software.
For each one of these monsters errors and disasters are reported by the millions.
