Word vs Writer regarding first page header and subsequent ones

In Word it is possible to set a first page header and have the option to have a different header on the 2nd page and then the option to have the 2nd page header copied thereafter.

In Writer Format Page - Headers gives the option rather obscurely “Same content on first page” any changes made to the subsequent page(s) affects the First page one and more often than not the application crashes. I have reinstalled Libre Office 3 times and that does not cure my problem.

I cannot believe that this Header option means that subsequent headers are created first and then the first header has the option of being the same??

I would appreciate some help in this.

Kind regards

David

The crash is a bug fdo#62271. Otherwise though, use page styles. There is a pre-made First Page page style that does not include any header/footer by default. Set you first page to use that style. Then set your remaining pages to use either the Default Style page style OR your own custom page style (based on the Default Style page style). Insert > Manual Break… > Type / Page Break and select your page style.

Many thanks for your excellent answer.

Sadly, having wasted a great deal of time on this and also Apache writer (which exhibited exactly the same problem including the crashing) I reluctantly bit the bullet and downloaded MS Office 2007 at $60, since I was working to a deadline.

It has been great using Open Office products over the last 7 years - many thanks
