Value must be entered before I can move to next field

Recently I have updated my L.O. version to 6.1.3. After opening the database for the first time I got a message saying that a field had to have a value entered before moving to the next field. So I checked the control settings to find that the upgrade had changed the setting from “No” to “Yes”. So I changed back to “No” and things worked fine. After a couple of times of use the error message returned back to having to enter a value once again. So this time when I checked the settings it was still “No”. So now I am baffled on what to do to fix this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I am using Win10. 64 bit.

@Spur52 Seems you are talking about the property Input Required for a field on a form. This was not changed by the upgrade. When creating a form this default is Yes and was present before the upgrade.

Now what is curious is the mention of getting the error when trying to move to the next ‘field’. This is not how it works in v6.1.3.2 on Linux. The message Error writing data to database Input required in field 'X'. Please enter a value. only will occur once trying to write the record. It may be that the field is the last field before you are trying to write the record. But that is aside from your problem.

This ‘Bug fix’ was introduced in LO v 6.1.x and I have been using for several versions now in many .odb’s with many different DB’s and have not seen where once set to No that the error message returns. There must be some other factor involved.

Try restarting in Safe mode and see if the problem continues. If so, please post a copy of your Base file without personal/confidential info for further examination.

I was wrong. It happens when trying to save. Property shows NO. I could attach some screen shots but can’t find how to do that.

Screenshots probably are not going to help. Need sample.

how do I get it to you?

Edit your question. In the toolbar at the top of the question is a paperclip icon. Use this to attach the file. This is explained in How to use Ask site under Resources in the right column of the main page. There are other resources such as faq & help at the bottom of the page.

I found the problem. The field I was having trouble with has a drop down list linked to it and I did not change the property for that. Now it is working fine again. Thanks for trying to help Ratslinger.
