Impress: Resizing Elements using the mouse causes proportional resizing unlike any other software

LibreOffice Impress behaves unlike any other software if you try to alter element sizes with your mouse. If you click a point at the frame, it always changes the size proportionaly unless you press the Shift-Key.

That’s really annoying, because I don’t know any other software doing this. For impaired people it’s not only annoying - it’s harrassing.

Is there any possibility to change properties to return to normal behaviour?

Are you sure you didn’t mix up proportionally and disproportionally? Because Impress 4.0.3 behaves just the way you say you wish it does. And which I don’t like, I think this should be changed.

As for as I remember from my past MS PowerPoint days, graphical elements like rectangular shapes kept the side ration when re-sizing was done by using the corner points.

In Impress keeping the side ratio is done by keeping the SHIFT key pressed down. I personally would still prefer the behavior that side ratio is kept when I use the corner points. However, this is a question of taste and preference and what one is used to do.

@Klaus1 - if you have such a strong request for a change, please file an enhancement request under

and add “enhancement” into the subject line.

@mahfiaz: No, I did not mix up proportionally and disproportionally.

@ROSt53: Resizing at either dragpoint of a frame results in proportionally changeing the framesize. I have to use the SHIFT key to resize unproportionally. Until now I have 3 installations of LibreOffice - all with the same behaviour.

I could live with that if not the dragpoints at the sides of the frames also caused proportional resizing…

Thanks for your answers!

I use LibreOffice on Ubuntu Linux and it behaves just like you wish it would. What OS are you using? Is the behaviour different across platforms?

My OS is XP Prof/SP3

Mine is Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro, but also a test installation with Win XP pro under VirtualBox showed the same result.
