[SOLVED] How to increase the length of a line object is Writer

In Writer, when I type a letter, as usual I try to add a line by Insert / Shape / Line / Line. But it turned out that the line I had made was not long enough and didn’t match what I wanted. therefore, I tried to find the toolbar menu to add to the length of the line, but I did not find it. So I added manually by selecting the line object which turned out to be not straight. does someone know where I can find the settings?

Thank for help.

Aixh,

In order to draw an horizontal (or vertical) line, press Shift while drawing it. To edit an object, once you selected it with one click, you can:

  • Use the Side Bar → Properties tab → Position and Size
  • Right click on the object → Position and Size
  • Pick one of the handlers and just stretch it (if you do so by holding Shift the object will keep its orientation / proportion)

OK, I don’t understand because I don’t know. Hopefully next time I don’t do this again

thank you in advance for being willing to answer my question, but that is not the answer I meant, because if that is the case I also understand. But what I mean is how to add a line length in units of several sizes (cm / mm / inch) without having to create a new line object while pressing the shift key.

If you have a simple straight line (with 2 points), then it’s easy to set orthogonal line’s length using its Position and Size dialog, where you set e.g. its height to 0 (for horizontal lines) and width to desired value.

You also could use grid (and snap to it) - see OptionsWriterGrid.

Thank you for the solution, Mike. This is what i mean.
