Sample spreadsheet for this question: C:\fakepath\example02.ods (Original Source)

I am viewing some videos and playing with the sample spreadsheets. The author created simple user-defined formats for phone numbers and zip codes.

I wanted to add comments to the User-defined formats, but have not been successful. I am not getting any sort of error.

Is it possible to change the comment for the User-defined format? If so, how? I've attached a shorten version of the original spreadsheet.

Steps I took:

  1. Right click and select Format Cells.
  2. On the Format Cells dialog I clicked on "User-defined" in the Category list.
  3. Clicked on the first format in the "Format" list. The first one is zip-code (00000).
  4. Clicked on the "Edit Comment" button next to the Format code and typed "Zip-code" (no quotes).
There is no save button, so I tried a couple of actions like clicked OK, clicked another field to change focus, but I could not change the Comment for the User-defined Cell Format. The comment just stays "User-defined".
  5. I also deleted the User-defined Cell Format and recreated it with a comment, and clicked the checkmark button to Add it, but that didn't work either.

There is an Add (green checkmark in my theme) button left to the Edit Comment button (at least in 6.2.0.3).
