when trying to open a file get this message "does not exist".

C:\Users\abelnancyd\AppData\Local\Temp\Lee’s estate Nancy’s to work with.ods does not exist.

Are you really trying to open a file saved in your temporary directory? Is it possible that you opened a file saved there by some application that gave you some preview (say, you opened some attachment), and you didn’t pay attention where you worked with it, and later the initial application cleaned up after itself, removing your file?

Thanks, I have recovered it and it is now working.

The mentioned message was most likely sent when you tried to open a file from the thumbnail image shown in the pane of the stardesktop if not yet a document was opened, or from the picklist you get shown on >File>Recent Documents.
Mor precisely worded it is telling you that the document’s file isn’t found under the URL saved for it. In most cases the respective file still exists (and can be found using the file manager of yourOperatingSystem), but was renamed or moved to a different folder. It may, of course also be deleted - but not by LibO.
