Why does the tab stop keep changing?

I have version 6.1.3.2. I set the tab stop in LibreOffice Writer General to 0.25". LibreOffice keeps changing it back to 0.50". Then I have to change it back to 0.25". Again & again! This makes me really mad. Why does it keep changing back to 0.50"? How do I keep it on 0.25"?

A popup keeps nagging me about the margins are out of print range but I don’t have any problems printing. I set the margins at 0.25".

Are you changing it in the same document, or each time in new? Which file format do you use?
