Why does LibreOffice send multiple 'OPEN' events for a file.save?

I'm using pyinotify to watch events in a directory. When I save a file in libreoffice writer I read four or even six identical OPEN events .

 <Event dir=False mask=0x20 maskname=IN_OPEN name=460.JakeAndJackieAndTheGunTable.odt path=/home/stephen/bitchnburly pathname=/home/stephen/bitchnburly/460.JakeAndJackieAndTheGunTable.odt wd=1 >

If I save a file with a text editor, eg. vi or geany I get only one event -- a MODIFY.

This is not a problem, just a curiosity.
