How to solve Java problem after installing LibreOffice 6.15

I am not knowledgeable about database programs but have successfully used LibreOffice (and before that OpenOffice) Base to create simple databases. Today I tried to update LibreOffice to version 6.15, and received a message that said “No Java installation could be found. Please check your installation.” I then downloaded the latest version of Java runtime for my computer (Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit), and thought I installed it correctly. However, I still cannot seem to connect it with LibreOffice. I will attach two messages that I received.

I will be very grateful for help with this problem.

Try setting your user profile back. Save the existing user profile under a different name. How to do that you will find here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Thank you very much. Following the instructions to reset my user profile, as you suggested, seems to have fixed the problem. I have been able to open, change and save a LibreOffice database, although the program still seems to use my old JRE, not the new one that I downloaded and tried to install.

Thank you for trying to solve my problem with installing Java Runtime Environment. When I downloaded the latest Java Runtime Environment, I first received this warning, “We have detected you are using Firefox which might be unable to use the Java plugin from this browser.” I’m using Firefox Quantum, version 65.0.2 (32-bit).

I also tried re-installing downloaded JRE for 32-bit, and received a message that my installation may not be correct, so I tried the “use recommended settings” option. That did not work either.

Do you have any further ideas about how can I fix this problem? Firefox is my default browser, but I also have Chrome.

Read the information that I refer to. You should download the version that allows an offline installation on java.com.

I must be missing something obvious. I did download the Java version that allows an offline installation for my 32-bit Windows 7 computer, jre-8u201-Windows-i586.exe. When it downloaded, I clicked on “install” and received the message, “You have successfully installed Java …” However, when I tried to open a table in LibreOffice I still received the error message about Java saying “No Java installation could be found.” I followed the instructions to go to Tools/LibreOffice Advanced it just showed my former JRE installation, 1.8.0_201. I could not discover the offline Java that I had downloaded.

I appreciate your efforts to help me. Can you suggest what else I can try?

You should select the new JRE version under Tools in LibreOffice.

But how to do this? You say, “You should select the new JRE version under Tools in LibreOffice.” but I have the latest version of LibreOffice and cannot see how to follow your suggestion. As I’ve explained before, when I go to Tools/LibreOffice Advanced it just showed my former JRE installation, 1.8.0_201, and that does not work.
