The Debian version of LO 6.1.5 and 6.2 are not available

The Debian version of LO 6.1.5 and 6.2 are not available. The ones designated as Debian downloads are tar files which the gdebi installer won’t recognize as installable. After reading some of the problems with the new versions maybe that is good! I am using version 6.0.7.3 on Linux Mint 19.1.

Debian -- Details of package libreoffice in sid is currently 6.1.5… and Debian -- Details of package libreoffice in experimental is 6.2.2.

.

I am using version 6.0.7.3 on Linux Mint 19.1

Official PPA provides last version of LO 6.0.x, i.e. 6.0.7.3

For later versions de-install LO 6.0.7.3 and change PPA or and dowload and install other version(s).

You should unpack archive, then open Terminal, change directory to unpacked archive, go to DEBS catalog inside, and then finally use command sudo dpkg -i *

You can’t use gdebi for install many deb-packages from archive

… as mentioned in the included README

Thank you for the links. I had gone to the main LO page, libreoffice.org, then here: Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft The website read my OS as Debian based (Mint 19.1), but the file that downloads is a tar file which IS NOT a Debian file. Apparently, whoever set up the links doesn’t know that.

Apparently, @bobpegram didn’t try to untar the package to read the README inside, which describes the procedure which @Kompilainenn reproduced here. That is because LibreOffice consists of multiple packages; and they are tarred into a single file (to make downloading easy) in the hope that whoever downloads it, would use own brain to guess to untar. Anyway, LibreOffice does not consider its DEB/RPM packages a recommended method of distribution on Linux; so no extra work is put into making it easier than it’s now.
