Cannot get links into TOC

Got the TOC OK and follow the instructions to create links on the h2 and h3 styles in the document. But I cannot get them to work - I assume a hand will appear to enable a click to get to the section. Advice appreciated.

Used these instructions: Creating a Table of Contents - LibreOffice Help
Then:

To Assign Hyperlinks to Entries in a Table of Contents
You can assign a cross-reference as a hyperlink to entries in a table of contents.
Right-click in the table of contents, and then choose Edit Index or Table of Contents.
Click the Entries tab.
In the Level list click the heading level that you want to assign hyperlinks to.
In the Structure area, click in the box in front of E#, and then click Hyperlink.
Click in the box behind the E, and then click Hyperlink.
Repeat for each heading level that you want to create hyperlinks for, or click the All button to apply the formatting to all levels.

Used levels 2 and 3 as i have headings h2 and h3. No response on OK. I have Chapter headings on h2 with text defining the heading. h3 is just text.

Please edit (don’t use an answer) your question to explain how you “create(d) links on h2 and h3 styles in the document”. This may be a matter of vocabulary: you don’t modify styles but entry template in the TOC dialog.

You can tell if hyperlinks will be created when you see LS and LE buttons (link start and end) in the Structure line. Make sure you haven’t two series, I have no idea of what happrens in this case.

Having two correct sequences (LSLELSLE) creates proper links for respective parts of the entry only (e.g., you may do that to only have hyperlinks for chapter number and page number parts). I don’t know if that’s something one might ever want; just mentioning it here for completeness.

No idea what would happen if the sequences are not proper (incomplete or nested - the latter should not normally happen, but who knows :-))

Hyperlinks in TOC don’t work with simple click because you might want to put the cursor inside it.

To jump to hyperlink destination, Ctrl+click (on MacOS “Clover leaf” or “Apple”+click).

Many thanks. I deleted the Contents and recreated it following the Help link and that worked OK.
