Get Error Applying Transforms message when trying to install Libre Office

Dear Anyone.

I’ve got the right version - I THINK - for my computer which is XP SP3. But when I try to install it, it comes up ‘Error applying transforms. Please ensure that the transform paths are valid’

I’ve never heard of this error before! What is it and how do I fix it? I’d love to try your software. Or is there a portable version going that doesn’t need actual installation?

If you try to install version 6.0 or above you have definitely the wrong version. The requirements for 6.0 or above are:

LibreOffice 6.0 requires one of the following operating systems:
• Microsoft Windows: Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows Server
2012, or Windows 10.

So Windows XP is no longer supported for LibreOffice version 6.0 or above.

Yeah, would’ve helped to say which versions I’d tried, wouldn’t it. Sorry 'bout that! I’ve tried these two versions…

That’s exactly how both are spelled with the dashes and everything.

Well - 5.1 would do (although 5.4 is what is the latest supporting WinXP). But …

1. Where did you get the installers with such “dashes and everything”? They don’t look official (which are available from download archive).
2. Is your OS 64-bit? (There were 64-bit WinXP versions, but they were … rare). If your OS is 32-bit, then you only can use 32-bit LO installer.
3. Your installation database might be broken. There is a MS tool to fix that … e.g., linked from this MS article, which claims to fit for WinXP case - but the link to “Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled” troubleshooter brings you to a page which only lists Windows 7 and newer. Possibly it would still run on XP - I don’t know.
