How do I add music tracks to an impress slide show?

I put together a slide show in Libre Office Impress and want to put a series of music tracks on it. How do I do that? Many thanks!

To insert “background” music — In the View menu select Slide Transition. In the transition sidebar tab, Modify Transition - Sound. For a music track select Other tone. . . and a file explorer dialog window comes up where you can locate the desired music file. You can also select the option to Loop until the next clip. When Impress encounters another slide with a sound selected it terminates the current one and starts playing the new one.

Go to the Insert menu and select “Audio or Video” from the drop down. Navigate to where the file is stored and click open. A little speaker icon will show. The track will play as soon as the slide is opened and stop as soon as the next slide is selected.

Thank you for getting back to me. Is there a way I can make my audio track play throughout the whole slide show without interruption?

Many thanks for the comeback. I did as you suggested and my audio track starts up for each slide then starts anew for each subsequent one. Is there a way I can make my audio track play throughout the whole slide show without interruption?

Lewis - it sounds like you may have selected the “Apply Transition to All Sides”. That would result in the sound file to restart on each slide. You need to have the first slide with the selected music file and all subsequent slides specifying “No sound.” As I noted above, when Impress encounters another slide with a sound selected it terminates the current one and starts playing the new one.

1000 thanks, John; got it. You’ve been a great help! Now what I want to do is, once I’ve got this show the way I want it, to make it into a movie file I can put on DVD. What might it take to do this?

Sorry, can’t really help with that. It has been previously suggested that a screen recording program could accomplish this, but I have never tried that method. For video making I tend to use a program such as Cyberlink Power Director or Adobe Premier. In the Impress File menu there is an option for exporting as a Macromedia Flash (SWF) file but I have never tried it.

Time for a Google search

Good luck

No worries, John. You’ve been very helpful. Good idea on the Google search. Many thanks again!

I realize this has been over a year. Not proposing a solution, but I want to thank you also John. I found this thread doing a google search. I hope others can find it if they have a problem

I had a very interesting experience trying to add background music to a presentation. I found some music I liked on YouTube and downloaded the video. Because I liked the music and wanted a high quality mp3 I purchased and downloaded it from the composer. I put the mp3 into the presentation using sound in Slide transition. Nothing. Then I put in the mp4 and it worked??? Any reason why it would do this
