Hi all, I have mucked up again. I am trying to create a chart and have accidently added a small box on the bottom right hand corner of the chart. I tried delete which got rid of the chart, not so the box. I highlighted the box and tried delete, no go again. I have tried many ways to get rid of it but it is now time to yell help.
The ‘BOX’ is at location K440
It might help to tell us exactly what you were doing when the box was accidentally created. Were you just moving the cursor around, or trying to add a different feature to the chart, or formatting some part of the chart?? Is the box related to some data displayed on the chart?
Thank you ve3oat, I really have no idea just what I was doing in calc. Being an amateur radio person, the best way to describe this is : Like the box you see in the lower right hand corner of a schematic diagram program.
I tried to get rid of it by selecting the entire area of the chart, then delete. Everything except the box disappeared. Fortunately I hadn’t logged any data at that time.
Sorry to be so vague, but I simply cannot recall what I was trying to achieve.

Sorry, Rod, I can suggest only two things. One would be to upload the actual chart with the box and add it to your question (edit the question appropriately) so that some of us here can “play” with it to see if a solution is possible. The other would be to simply start over and create a new chart with the same data, hoping that whatever random/accidental circumstance that caused the box to appear will not happen again to spoil your new chart.
I have never seen a box such as you describe in any of the charts that I have created. Your description of the orienting marker (whatever they call them) on a machine-produced schematic diagram might be a clue, but in my (limited?) experience I can think of nothing that would cause this in LibreOffice.

Try Editting your original question. One of the options appears as a paperclip. It allows you to attach a file. (There are several ways but I have little experience with any of them.)
I have again tried to attach a file to the original question. Please let me know if it doesn’t work and I will try again.

Most likely your “box” is any kind of shape you may have created inadvertently, and which isn’t a member of the chart. Unfortunately general shapes and charts in Clac do not regard the ordinary Z-order when rendered, and the ordinary shape may show inside the area the chart is claiming even if none of the shapes is set to be transparent.
To check if my guess is correct:
-1- Select the chart object and move it to get direct access to the “box”.
-2- Verify that the “box” did not move.
If so:
-3a- Select the “box” and make sure nothing else is selected.
-4a- Delete the “box”.
-5a- Move the chart to the place where you want it to show.
If otherwise:
-3b- Try one step of ‘Ungroup’ from the context menu.
-4b- Select a single sheet cell first and restart with -1- then.
-Finally- Report your experiences by adding a comment to this answer.
If your document is behaving in a way clearly refuting my guess, I would need it attached to your question for further investigation. After your report to that effect I would see for enough “karma” in your records to get you allowed to make attachments.

well I fixed it. Your suggestions were well received but didn’t work, so I found (again by accident) a small triangle at the centre of the right hand side of the sheet, that opened another menu at the right, I looked through it and gingerly tried all the features. The one marked OLE was the one… I clicked OLE and it came up with a number of items (1 through 12) I then single clicked each number and it showed a graph or whatever, went through them until 11 showed the box. I pressed delete and bingo, problem solved.
I thank you for your patience and help with this and it got me working again to fix the problem.

Anyway your post gave opportunity to discover a bug - and that’s also valuable. Unfortunately I didn’t yet find the time to prepare a (good) bug report about the issue I found.
On the other hand I am wondering about a sheet document with lots of OLE objects you seemingly dont’t know a lot about, in specific not if you need them at all. You might need to tidy up.

you are quite correct there. I have no idea what OLE’s are, I certainly didn’t use one to but that box in my program. There are many things I know nothing about, but by using Google, I usually bluff my way through.
I don’t think what I did was a “BUG” but if you identify it as one, then I am glad something good came out of my blunder.

OLE objects you may insert into spreadsheets without being aware of their nature are mainly ‘Chart’ or ‘Math Formula’ (very different from ‘Calc Formula’).
However, if you used the Navigator to find such objects, you surely doubleclicked on their representations there to select one after the other, and this way you found out what they were. If your “box” seemed to have no content you might have dragged it larger to check.
