How to use a base query as an address (data base) in writer for batch evelope or form letter printing?

I am trying to develop a date base, batch mailing, envelopes, form letters, customer management system for a small ministry. I have the data base, partner (customer) table, data entry form, queries, etc done.

Currently I am working on the batch envelope mailing. I can do a query and get a list of partners based on whatever criteria they want for any particular batch mailing.

While I can convert the query into a spreadsheet which Writer will recognize, It would be far simpler and faster if I could use the query results directly.

Can this be done?

ps: I have had no success with my efforts in this direction.

Hello,

This is all done with the Mail Merge process. Complete instructions for both letters and envelopes are in the LO documentation found here → LibreOffice Writer Guide. See Chapter 14 - Mail Merge.

It matters not whether this is from a table or query.

I will absolutely read this and give it a try!

Again I wish to thank the Libre community for trying to help. This may sound crazy, but I downloaded and printed out the mail merge / envelope instructions, yet following these instructions does not work.

I have no idea why. I have however found a somewhat convoluted method to accomplish what I need. Many of the steps make no rational sense. IE: toggle print preview and the address book, and database icon appear.

I am in the process of developing a list of steps to use a spreadsheet as the address source and batch print envelopes. I think I have about 35 key strokes / clicks to accomplish this.Sound complex but it works every time.

Thank you, I will read this and try to see if I missed a step or something. To date I can get writer / mail merge to recognize a query as address or data.

Please do not use “Your Answer” function, if you don’t answer a question but commenting an answer given. Use “add a comment” instead. Thanks in advance …

For envelopes, which do not need smart manipulations of paragraphs/clauses, you can also use the report generator in Base. Your envelope can be laid out graphically: you move your fields where they will print.

Thank you! I will give this a try.
