How to make a Table of Contents as a line.

I’ve a large document (300+ pages long) divided in many chapters. Each one of the chapters has its own table of contents.

The default configuration creates a list, with the heading name, tabulation and its page number. I just want a list of the headings.

Eg.:

Default:

Chapter 1 TOC

  1. Introduction … x

  2. Second part … y

  3. Conclusion … z

What I’m striving for:

TOC: 1. Introduction; 2. Second part; 3. Conclusion.

You can’t straight away. What you can do easily is to remove the leading line and the page number by customising the TOC generator (either right-click on TOC and Edit index or initially Insert>TOC & Index>TOC & Index in Entries tab).

Eventually, you can make your in-line TOC as a paragraph made of cross-reference insertions where you capture the headings. However, this is a huge manual work if you have many headings. Note however, you need to do it only once.

You could maybe do with macros (I never wrote a macro because I consider this is trying to abuse the application) if you’re versed in this art.
