I am confused about the versions of LibreOffice?

I am a home user with average user skills.

A week ago, I’m not sure which Download button I hit, but I got the complete LibreOfficeSuite of Writer, Calc, Impress, Base, Draw, etc. That looked fine, and I started work in Writer. I liked it a lot.

Then I had an unrelated computer crash and I had to have Windows 10 64-bit re-installed, so I lost all my apps including LibreOffice.

So I went into www.libreoffice.org again today and got into a different bit of the website and hit Download - not sure which button - and I got not the complete Suite, but only Writer, Calc and Base, not as a Suite but as 3 separate apps, and when I went into Writer it looked different from the version I had the previous week.

So I uninstalled all that, and then went into www.libreoffice.org again, more carefully. It talks about LibreOffice 6.2. I go to Download and it talks about LibreOffice 6.2, 6.1.6 and 6.2.5.

So here I am, wondering what to Download. Any suggestions, please?

Go to the download page and download 6.2.5 (the current fresh version release).

6.1.6 is the last still version release.

There are always two active versions, a more mature still version and the younger fresh version. When 6.3 will be released it will be the fresh version and 6.2.x will be the still version and 6.1.6 will be end-of-life.

Btw, there are no separate applications of Writer, Calc or Base; it’s always one application suite, maybe you just had individual desktop shortcuts, for this differently named executables are available.

Brilliant! Thanks very much. I shall download 6.2.5.
Not complaining - but as feedback - maybe all this could be made a bit clearer on the website?
I shall also make sure I click the box to get the Shortcut on desktop - it’s confusing that in the download it says “Link to start” or something, not “Create desktop shortcut”. I’ve always thought that that is called a “Shortcut”.
Also, the current wording suggests that Version 6.2.5 is a high risk for someone other than a “Power User”, which I am not.

Glad I could help.

But please add comments with add a comment, not as answer to the original question, which it is not. Thanks.

Anyhow, I think the wording on the download page is quite clear:

  • For current 6.2.5 it says If you’re a technology enthusiast, early adopter or power user, this version is for you!
  • For current 6.1.6 it says If you deploy LibreOffice in an enterprise or corporate environment or are a conservative user, please choose this version.

Can’t say anything about the Windows installer as I don’t use Windows.
