How can I insert a table, inside an inserted graphic - within Writer

I have a complex .doc file I created in MS Word several years ago that I would like to re-create in Writer. Unfortunately, in just opening the file in Writer - things do not appear correctly.

The MS doc file consists of a jpg file inserted into a .doc document.
After the jpg file is inserted - I then create a 2 column/15 row table that includes a header, and I insert the table within and on top of the jpg I previously inserted.

Note: the inserted jpg file is long and narrow - so the table is inside the graphic and you can see the graphics of the inserted jpg as the background. AND - the table needs inserted in a way that it’s cell contents can be edited.

Inside the table’s header - I insert a date which automatically updates each time the file is opened.

How can I recreate this in Writer?

Unfortunately due to software limitations, I am unable to upload/attach the original .doc file.

The table will not, I imagine, be “inside” the graphic, but rather set in the foreground, with the graphic in the background. The same effect can be achieved in Writer, but it is advisable to create it in reverse. Insert your table and content and then insert the graphic, before finally setting the graphic to be placed in the background. Right-click on graphic > Picture… > Wrap tab > Settings section set to “Through” and Options section check “In background”. You can then resize your table and content to match the background graphic.

Note that bug fdo#62391 relates to background graphics interfering with table cell colours. You may also experience other problems if you use non-native file formats i.e., DOC, DOCX, etc.
