I can do this at my computer… I double clicked the first word, didn’t relase click and move it right or left, without any problem…

This does not work inside a panel (see Insert → Panel) since click selects the panel itself, doubleclick shows properties.

Ok. I guess you mean Insert → Frame (I don’t have Panel in Insert menu). I see what you are talking about - doubleclicking only activates properties… However, if you click on Frame (panel), press any letter to start editing text, then selecting the text is possible the same way as withouth frame… that’s the case on my laptop (Ubuntu 13.04, Libre Office 4.0.4.2).

Frame is correct (sorry for confusion). Just clicking once on the text, waiting for the doubleclick to time out and then doing the thing works as well.

My understanding of the original question is: There is a Writer file and within the text there is FRAME inserted and there is also text within this frame.

I am bit surprised that MSO allows a selection of a text AFTER double-clicking a word because double-clicking a word is in MSO also the selection for an entire word. Thus, when you pull the cursor, the selected word should move. Therefore, the ability to select a word by double-clicking and drag down to select the entire text with the mouse looks to me like a MSO bug, which appears to be appreciate by you.

I made a test in LibO 4.0.4:

  • double clicking selects the word

  • triple clicking selects the first sentence

  • quadrupole clicking selects the paragraph

Thereafter you need to do ctrl+a or insert the cursor before the first character you want to select and pull down until the end of what you want to select.

I attached my test file here. Make sure you first download the file. Opening the file only keeps the file in save mode = read only.

I opened your document, and selecting the text inside the frame as Frederik suggests is possible, but you should first activate editing of the text inside the frame (active cursor should be there)…

@Ljiljan - thanks for your comment. “…activate editing of the text inside the frame (active cursor should be there).” means that the cursor first must blink inside the text box (which is a frame). Even if my cursor is blinking inside the frame. I cannot double click a word and select the rest of the text with the mouse. It always will move the double clicked word.

Where is the difference / cause ?

Well, I can do that… double click the word (but on second click when the word is selected, don’t relase your click;) and then move your mouse left or right and you are able to select other text (from the word you have already selected by doubleclicking ). If you release your second click then you can only move the doubleclicked word…

Thanks now I got it - the key was not to release after the second click! Now I can do like you described it.
