How do I fix my save button?

I am using LibreOffice 5.1.6.2

My save button doesn’t tell me whether a document needs to be saved. I need this feature for my professional work. I don’t have a little star on my save button, nor is it greyed out as it was on my last computer (far superior - I will miss that). I don’t have anything at all. There is no indication whatsoever, one way or another, whether or not any given document has been saved. I have read other similar questions (all with confusing and useless answers), but if there were a little star on my save button, I would be satisfied, even if it was hard to see. Instead, there is nothing. I also cannot find any options in the menu for altering the themes or the buttons in any meaningful way regarding this issue.

I need this resolved. I am not a programmer, so please explain the steps very simply, clearly, and in far more detail than you think I should need.

Thank you.

You should upgrade LibreOffice. I don’t know why your present version (v5.1.6) does not give you that feature, but v6.1.5.2 displays a little yellow star in the lower right-hand corner of the save button when a document has been changed since the last save.

In any case, attempting to close a changed document without saving first will bring up a dialog box asking if you really want to close without saving. Do you not get that dialog box, at least, with your current version??
