FIND&REPLACE: Whole words grayed out

In Find and Replace a week or so ago the option to use whole words worked fine. Now it is grayed out and I can’t seem to figure out how to correct it. I found a post on the web from 2011 about this but it was too old to help.

Have you clicked the Regular Expressions? If yes the whole words option is greyed out.

That was the problem. I remember seeing that in the help section but could not locate it. I believe at that time I had the find and replace box open and moved to the bottom of the screen. When I clicked options it did not show and I did not see there was something below.

The background could be that there is a special syntax on RegEx for word (\w or for boundary \b); LO is based on ICU where you find more details.
