Hello everyone, since not all are converted to LO/Mend/Zot for bibliography management, I still have to correct/amend word documents in which a formatting with Endnote has already been made. Once I change the document and save it as a .doc or .docx, the document can be opened with word no problem but Endnote won’t be able to work with the formatting anymore and all references are ignored. This is very annoying since I work on corrections on formatted MSword doc on a daily basis. How should I save my corrections under LO for Endnote to be still able to go on with the formatting as it would never have leave the MSWord circuit? Thanks so much for the answers.

You do not indicate which version of Microsoft Office and Endnote you are using, or even which operating system you are running. Both Microsoft Office and Endnote are proprietary products. Each uses a file format that is not native to LO. This combination of factors is likely to produce a problematic experience, however it is also possible that LO will handle your particular situation OK. To what degree it will or will not works depends on several factors:
- Windows, Endnote X5/X6 or earlier, DOCX file format. This combination is reported to work by making use of the Endnote extension (OXT).
- Zotero / Mendeley extensions or DOC file format. These extensions and/or file format are reported as having problems.
- MacOS. This platform has been reported as working in a different manner that may prevent use of the extension.
- My Endnote Web. This online service is not yet confirmed to work with LO.
Than k you so much for the answer. I am using Snow Leopard on a Mac. Obvisoulsy the word documents I am working on come from various computers (Mac and PC) and still give the same problem. I am not running Endnote, it is after my corrections when my collaborators open the docx document saved in LO that the problem occurred and that THEIR endnote don’t recognize the fomatting anymore.
It sounds like you do not have the EndNote extension I mentioned installed (as it may not work under MacOS). Without that extension LO will not handle the EndNote (third-party) pieces of code, so you will not be able to edit EndNote-encoded documents (DOCX) and then pass them back to others using Word.
I can also confirm that something similar is happening with Mendeley. Any document that is created in libreoffice and then opened in MS Word will cause the citation fields to be converted to text. Also, when this doc is saved in MS Word and then reopened in Libreoffice, will not recover the editable citation fields. This really puts a damper on collaborating within a research context.
