Is this because the fundamentals of Calc have remained unchanged since version 4.1, and therefore a new iteration of the guide is not necessary?

It's because it needs someone to do that. And it seems that more people have energy for updating Writer books than Calc books. Would you like to join and help fulfilling that gap?
