Numerated list in table columns

I have a table (a contract) where two columns are two languages.

Numeration goes cell-by-cell, left-to-right, I need it to be top-to-bottom in each column to keep numeration the same for each language.

Tried to do some intuitive body movements with no luck. Sure I can do it manually, but I want to learn so when I’ll need it again on a huge text, I’ll be prepared.

Maybe I have to copy the plain text to the virgin file (because the source file wasn’t made by me), but anyway I don’t see any direction how to break numeration to columns.image description

Cells in tables flow in Writer in rows, then across rows (i.e., horizontally first, then vertically). So after cell A1, there goes cell A2, not B1. Thus, any consecutive numbering would follow the pattern you describe.

You need two different numbering styles, with the same properties, applied to your two columns, to do that.

See this video for the solution plot (the styles need further modifications to be identical, but the idea should be clear).

Yes! Styles helped me, but only when I’ve copied the plain text and recreated the table from scratch. There was not correct built-in numbering in the source file but manually created which was taken up and followed authomatic numbering rules by MS Word and then automatically recreated in Writer.

Never (NEVER!) trust your customers’ files with ugly formatting which sometimes you can’t see and recognize.

Thanks a lot, @Mike2, for your time and a good idea!
